History

The stunning lake Esparron, which looks so wild and natural is in fact a manmade lake formed in 1967 when the dam was built on the Verdon  river near Gréoux les bains.

The lake now extends 15 kms from the dam until it reaches Quinson. Its waters feed the Provence canal and is part of the Park natural de Verdon. It benefits from the environmental quality label Natura 2000 which protects the surrounding flora and fauna.

The area is regulated by French mountain law which protects against all building along its shoreline.

Underneath its waters the lake holds some secrets from the past like :  Le Bord du Verdon initial, Le Moulin du sanglier, Le Pont coupé.
